WHAT IS YOGA THERAPY

Yoga Therapy uses all the tools of Yoga philosophy and applies them to our lives today. This means it’s a holistic therapy looking at Body, Breath, Mind, Energy and Spirit - the 5 Koshas.

Using this framework, we will look at where you feel depleted or stuck, what you need to help you achieve your goals and find joy in your life. This may be supporting you with a chronic illness, or a physical symptom such as back pain, or it may be working with your anxiety or depression.

More often than not it all becomes one picture - Yoga Therapy helps us to see the links between body and mind. When we delve deep into an emotional symptom, pain in the body is often alleviated.

A session lasts for 1 hour online, or in-person within Harpenden or St Albans. Cost £60

FAQs

Do i need to practice yoga ?

No! Yoga therapy is using the principlesof yoga philosophy which are from many different traditions and are centuries old. It is not about the physical exercise of Yoga which is called an Asana practice.

Do you talk in yoga therapy or is it all movement?

The answer here is of course, it depends. There is always talking to start with as it’s important your voice is heard and we are working together towards your goals but once we decide on a plan that works for you it will be whatever you need. For some people that means lots of talking and for others it’s about the quiet. For some it’s about the breath, for some it’s about moving - there is no right or wrong and no one size fits all.

I am not very mobile due to a health condition so i can’t do yoga, does this mean I can’t do YOga therapy?

No! Yoga therapy is suitable for all ages and all abilities, it can support everyone - even those who can’t get out of bed. It has been used in hospital settings and therapeutic clinics.

Do i need any equipment?

Absolutely not - not even a mat. You can wear normal clothes as long as you are comfortable to move and simply be in your home in your living room or a safe space.

How many sessions do i need?

Again, it depends. I would recommend starting with 3 but you may want to keep going!
